Why is it important for couples to have discussions about money before moving in together and while living together?
Each person has a unique background which may lead to vastly different experiences, financial priorities, and money habits. One person may prioritize current gratification while the other feels having an emergency fund and funding retirement is their top priority. If you understand this at the start of the relationship you can find a middle ground to many things before you have any problems. One good example is to set a minimum savings goal and then each gets an amount to do whatever they want with. The saver can still choose to save that money (maybe in their personal rainy-day fund) while the other person knows they will have some money each month for whatever they want.
