NANCY BURGANDINE

Nancy was exposed to the world of money and finance as a small child attending stock club meetings with her father. In fact, she purchased her first car at 18 with babysitting money that she successfully invested. She has owned several businesses in retail, consulting, and manufacturing. After selling her manufacturing company to a public company in 2000, she decided to focus on tax and financial planning. She has worked with clients to plan for retirement and support their children through college. She especially enjoys preparing college financial aid applications and is an expert in completing the FAFSA and college board financial applications. Nancy holds an Enrolled Agent license from the IRS for tax preparation and had a financial planning license for 15 years. Additionally, she taught in the Business program at National University.

Nancy serves as a part-time CFO to small companies, educating them on all aspects of financial management including how to manage expenses to become profitable.

In her spare time, Nancy has volunteered with foster youths for 12 years.  She has worked with students leaving the foster world, either going to college or into the work world, and more recently with foster teens. She has given classes on income taxes and money management. She also takes great pride in the fact that not only does her son have a Roth IRA which he opened at 16, but most of his friends have a Roth IRA as well.

IRENE VAN DYK

While getting her taxes done by Nancy in 2020, Irene and Nancy realized they shared a passion and lots of hands-on experience in raising financially independent and savvy children. Together they created Raising Financially Independent Children, a short and easy-to-read book making seemingly difficult topics simple to understand and implement, even for children as young as two. Three more books followed over the next 18 months, addressing the specific needs of teens, couples. and those newly living on their own. Nancy serves as the financial expert, while Irene puts pen to paper.

Irene comes from a technology and business background and was promoted at age 33 to running a $100M business for Hewlett Packard, managing 1500 employees located across the U.S. and Europe. Some years later she moved into the inkjet business as it was ramping up, managing Research and Development for all inkjet cartridges, including the then-emerging shift to digital photography and poster-sized printing. She capped off her career at HP with a stint leading the Home Imaging Division, leveraging the photo capability of inkjet into everyday affordable printers aimed at the mass market.

Following her HP career, Irene later worked with children “learning to learn” at the Falcone Institute.    The Falcone Institute is dedicated to supporting clients, primarily children, with learning and emotional challenges.

Irene has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, which she attended on a fellowship. Twenty years later, she completed the Executive Program (SEP) at the Stanford University Business School, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard as a Senior Executive. In 1993, she received a “Tribute to Women and Industry” (TWIN) award from the YWCA in Silicon Valley.
