What Do My Children Learn When They See Me Spend Money?

Whether or not you think your children are paying attention to you, they do learn from watching your behavior. When you go to the grocery store, do you have a list and a budget for what you would like to buy? Do you comparison shop and take advantage of sales? Are you comfortable with the money you have, and is your spending planned or haphazard? Creating a budget can help not only you but also set a great example for your children. They may benefit by creating a budget for a trip to the zoo so that they can set their expectations to what you can afford ahead of time.

We have several different books that that provide a story s based education about this topic. The books you may find the most relevant are Raising Financially Independent Children and Budgeting for Women by Women.

Our books Raising Financially Independent Children and Financially Independent Teens both discuss how to teach children about budgeting and making choices.
