Teach your 3 year old that chores = treat

What can you teach a 3-year-old?

For young kids, you can give them an allowance in quarters they put into a glass jar or place on a goal sheet. Perhaps you may give them one or two quarters if they complete a chore of your choosing. If they want a warm cookie at the grocery store that costs $2, they can learn that it requires 8 quarters. While they are learning that they can be rewarded for work, they are also learning patience at the grocery store while they save up 8 quarters for a cookie. This example is one of several age-appropriate stories in Chapter 3 “Birth to 5 Years Old” in Raising Financially Independent Children.
