📘 Budgeting for 5 to 8 Year Olds — Why Is This a Good

Welcome to Raising Children and Money! Our aim is to help you educate your child about the value of money at any age. Our videos cover practical topics for parents of children aged 2 through 20.

💡 Why Teach Kids Aged 5–8 About Budgeting?

You might ask:“Why should I teach my child how to budget when they're just 5 to 8 years old?”

The answer:Because budgeting helps us make choices — and children need to learn how to make choices too!

Making those decisions before going on an outing avoids:

  • Tantrums when your child can't have everything they see

  • Disappointment when you realize how much the outing cost

🍔 A Simple Example: Food Costs

One of the biggest parts of a kid-friendly budget is food.

Think about this:

  • Buying lunch at a restaurant or food court is much more expensive than bringing your own food.

  • Is eating out important to your child — or would they rather spend that money on a toy, ride, or game?

By making these decisions in advance, you avoid last-minute arguments or confusion.

🎢 Rides, Snacks, and Extras

When you're at a place like the zoo, it’s easy to be overwhelmed with:

Rides, Toys., Plush animals, Snacks, Games, Souvenirs,  Monorail rides

Taking time to plan what you want to do ahead of time:✅ Saves money✅ Saves time✅ Teaches kids how to make conscious, thoughtful choices

Isn’t a clear plan better than negotiating at every snack stand?
